July 4th Remembrance America’s Birthday
As America celebrates its birthday, we should remember all the things that we have to be thankful for. The July 4th remembrance is the day that our Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress in 1776, 245 years ago.
It was in Philadelphia, and the signers of that document, composed primarily by Thomas Jefferson, knew that this declaration of independence from what they considered the dictatorial rule of Great Britain. It might also be – literally – their death sentence. Yet they put their signatures, and their lives, their families, their destiny, on that parchment.
The importance of July 4th remembrance, then, is that it marks the birth of the United States of America. The impossible dream of a one nation, with unalienable rights endowed equally to all – among these life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness….
Surely this is a time for ALL of us to really cherish that original dream, the one for which so many have died, to individually and collectively re-declare our allegiance to the blood-bought foundation of government of, by, and for the people. . . .
ALL people who are determined to live free.
Happy and Safe 4th of July, Yvonne
